Analogix releases ANX9840™ DisplayPort receiver
integrated into LCD controller/panel timing controller (TCON)

CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW – LAS VEGAS, Nev. – January 7, 2008 – Analogix Semiconductor, Inc. a world leader in high performance digital media interface solutions, announced today the industry’s first DisplayPort receiver chip with integrated support for a LCD controller/panel timing controller (TCON).  The ANX9840 DisplayPort receiver offers robust support for the next-generation display interconnect standard for monitors, notebooks, and consumer electronics. The ANX9840 features an integrated LCD timing controller (TCON) that supports the VESA® DisplayPort Specification v1.1a and adopts the standard FPD monitor interconnect to replace VGA, DVI and LVDS in high resolution, high-refresh rate panel applications. 

As a compliant DisplayPort receiver, the ANX9840 can support a total data throughput of 10.8Gbps using a single interconnect cable. Data is transported at a rate of 1.62Gbps or 2.7Gbps over 1, 2 or 4 separate two-wire differential pairs with a data rate of up to 2.2 times a single-link DVI or HDMI 1.2 connection (also four data lanes).  It is also used to read display EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) and can be used for such applications as video teleconferencing, from receiver (sink) device to transmitter (source) device.

“By implementing DisplayPort into PC- LCD panels and LCD monitors manufacturers can use fewer complex components in their bill of materials, reducing their overall cost. With a direct drive monitor, there is no need for scalar or front-end electronics. A direct drive monitor can handle frame-rate and analog-to-digital conversion, which streamlines the implementation of many tasks that are currently supported by a large number of components within a computer monitor,” said, Jae Lee, Technical Marketing Manager at Analogix.

Analogix will participate in the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®), DisplayPort TechZone pavilion (booth #71857) at CES, and a DisplayPort press event on Tuesday, January 8 at 10:45 AM at the Venetian Hotel.  Exclusive demonstrations will be held at Booth 70241 “Meeting Place” at the Sands Exposition and Convention Center.
