Analogix Unveils Industry’s Lowest Power HDMI Transmitter Technology, Targets Consumer Electronics Devices with New Zero Power Capabilities CoolHD™ Technology Consumes Zero Power At 480p; Less Than 50mw At SANTA CLARA, Calif., February 4, 2008 – Analogix Semiconductor, Inc. a world leader in high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and IP solutions, unveiled details of the industry’s lowest power HDMI transmitter. The CoolHD™ technology consumes less than 50mw while supporting resolutions up to 720p and 1080i, and utilizes zero power at 480p resolution. Once released, the new CoolHD power-optimized HDMI transmitter technology will be offered in sub 0.18um CMOS process and available in either BGA or TQFP packages. The CoolHD™ ultra low and zero power HDMI transmitters are designed specifically to deliver high performance to the growing small form factor ultra mobile personal computing (UMPC) market and high performance portable media player (PMP’s) as well as devices as camcorders, digital cameras, and mobile phones. The CoolHD™ transmitter will support HDMI specification v1.2 and also feature a high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) engine and keys that enable the secure distribution of content between HDMI-enabled devices. “The ultra low and zero power consumption features of our new transmitter technology will provide an incredible benefit to improve HD playback time from any battery operated or battery dependant mobile device,” said Kewei Yang, Chairman and CEO at Analogix. “We see a significant market opportunity for our CoolHD™ product family as consumers expand the portable media revolution, and come to expect high quality HD format performance from a simple single HDMI connector on their mobile device.” The CoolHD™ technology platform offers an integrated HDCP key eliminating the need for an external EEPROM, and an integrated HDCP engine eliminates major software complexity by having a hardware engine dedicated to HDCP authentication from hardware to software.
