With Chips in Production and Accessory Samples Ready for Market, Mobile Device Makers can take the Small Screen to the Big Screen in 2012

Analogix® Semiconductor, a leading innovator in mixed-signal circuits and IP, announced at CES 2012 that it has SlimPort™ chips in production, and that several of the world's leading accessory manufacturers, including Luxshare-ICT, BizLink and Beijing Creativity, are testing next-generation SlimPort cables through the Analogix SlimPort Accessories Adopters Program (SAAP).

SlimPort technology delivers uncompressed audio and video over the existing mobile USB connector to HD and legacy displays, while conserving mobile battery life. SlimPort enables laptops, smart phones, and tablet computers to present sustained theater-quality audio, 2D graphics and 3D video in high-definition on large displays.

This growing, concrete commitment to SlimPort assures makers of mobile phones and other portable devices that the accessory ecosystem for SlimPort will be robust, as they prepare to bring to market more products with SlimPort integrated.

“2012 marks the year that devices become significantly more interoperable, leveraging the cloud, and sharing content with a variety of screens,” said Andre Bouwer, vice president of marketing for Analogix. “SlimPort-enabled cables and accessories will allow rich content on mobile devices to be displayed in its most pure and high-performance form on large screens, without losing battery power in the process.”

Developed by Analogix and based on core DisplayPort technologies, the SlimPort product line allows mobile devices to display on HD and legacy displays via mobile USB cables. By incorporating SlimPort, these mobile devices gain low-cost, zero-power consumption connectivity to the majority of the world’s displays. Each SlimPort cable and adapter connecting the mobile device to a display contains a zero-power CoolHD™ HDMI transmitter. CoolHD, invented by Analogix, conserves battery life and extends the run time of mobile devices, while it also lowers operating temperature.

“We’ve been running SlimPort products through our tablet test lab and the visual quality has proven to be outstanding,” said Francis Xue, vice president of marketing for Allwinnertech. “With its battery preserving features and DisplayPort-based technology foundation, SlimPort looks extremely promising for uncompromised mobile to big screen applications.”

SlimPort also allows smart phones and mobile computers to render on any display with total transparency to the consumer, without forcing any form factor change on the manufacturer. Using only three signal pins, SlimPort connects a mobile device through a simple ultra-thin cable up to five meters in length, and supports resolutions up to full HD and 3-D display with 7.1 channel audio capabilities.

SlimPort prototype devices and accessories are being demonstrated at the International Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, in the USB Tech Zone (South Hall #30769) and in the VESA booth (South Hall #21654).
