Miguel Rodriguez, Director of Marketing for Analogix, talked about mobile platforms for entertainment, gaming, and VR using Analogix solutions in the context of 5G networks.

Mobile phones as a platform for entertainment provide HD video in the form of dual display and foldable displays.

Dual screen architectures increase the video viewing experience by combining into a larger screen and they are a more practical approach than foldable displays. DisplayPort provides a low latency  video display interface for the second display. Dual-display platforms feature an USB-C interface for the second display providing low latency video interface and high-bandwidth data path to the CPU.

Analogix’s ANX7580 is used in dual-display mobile platforms. These platforms have a series of benefits such as a primary display used for normal apps or main gaming display, and additional display area for health, ammunition, maps, as well as digital joysticks and buttons.

Mobile platforms will benefit from Analogix’s re-timers for smartphones, which are built on industry-proven architecture previously adopted by the Intel Comet Lake platform, Windows on ARM detachable PCs, and Nvidia G-Sync monitors, and guarantee an error-free performance over the USB-C channel trace. As smartphones move to 10Gbps USB-C, the ANX7451 enables high bandwidth data and video transport of upcoming application processors over USB-C and it is essential in maintaining signal integrity in flexible mobile system boards, as well as in the case of longer cable connection applications such as data synchronization, docking stations, and tethered mobile VR.

Analogix’s solutions for VR system include the ANX7530, a DisplayPort to MIPI DSI VR display controller which powers the latest generation of tethered VR headsets, providing high-speed DisplayPort interface to connect to the VR content source, while MIPI DSI provides up to 16 DSI lanes partitioned over 4 ports for maximum flexibility.
