SlimPort-4K products have been officially unveiled, carving MHL’s market share

Analogix officially announced at Mobile World Congress its highly integrated SlimPort-4K product line, including a transmitter and a receiver, with samples in mass production stage. In the future consumers will be able to take advantage of SlimPort-4K interface link mobile devices with ultra-high -definition display, share 4K × 2K and three-dimensional (3D) video content.

Andre Bouwer, the Analogix vice president of marketing, stressed that any chip supplier can download MyDP specifications from VESA's official website and can start designing SlimPort chips.
Andre Bouwer said that a consumer equipped with a SlimPort-4K specification smartphone or tablet will be able to see the movie on a small screen, but after returning home can enjoy the visual experience of the big screen from the mobile device, without affecting the quality of synchronous transmission charge under the premise of the movie . Analogix noted , SlimPort-4K transmitters and SlimPort-4K receivers are supporting version 2.2 High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection, HDCP) standard. Audio and video content providers can ensure that their products copyright is protected, and this feature is the biggest difference comparing with the previous generation SlimPort.

SlimPort-4K transmitter integrates onto a single-chip all necessary components, so smartphone makers can reduce the cost of raw materials inventory .

It is understood that the relevant components and SlimPort adapters are certified for DisplayPort (DP1.2/MyDP1.0).

Bouwer stressed that for the use of SlimPort specifications, manufacturers only need to pay an annual membership fee to Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), and there is no need to pay additional royalty on product shipments.

It is worth mentioning that the SlimPort ecosystem is expanding. Google and LG partnering on products such as the mobile devices Google LG Nexus 4, Google LG Nexus 5, LG Surfaces phone G Flex, as well as Tablet PC Google Nexus 7, LG G Pad , etc. are using the SlimPort specifications ; while other brands such as Asus, Fujitsu , Hewlett-Packard (HP) also worked in the deformation phone PadFone Infinity, tablet and Chromebook 11 STYLISTIC QH582 join SlimPort interface.

In addition to these brands, a variety of other accessory partners are racing to bring up a variety of SlimPort adapters, so SlimPort mobile devices can support a large screen with more links. Analogix noted, SlimPort used in the mobile industry has become a universal serial bus (USB) connector for the transmission of audio, video, data and charging.

To attract more brand factory to join the ranks of adoption , Analogix SlimPort are developing the next generation launcher, will further enhance the transmission speed , and support for UHD 60FPS video quality and specifications , so that audio and video content presented more smoothly.

DP 1.3 SlimPort blessing speed towards 8.1Gbit / s

Analogix SlimPort plan in the next generation of chips into the second quarter of this year will be finalized DisplayPort 1.3 specification , so SlimPort transfer speeds up to 8.1Gbit / s, to support the 4K × 2K 60FPS video streaming .

Bouwer said , focusing on the game screen transmission killer app super high quality audio and video transmission quality requirements for , Analogix in the second quarter of this year DisplayPort 1.3 specification was settled , the further adoption of this standard , let SlimPort interface transfer speed upgrade to 8.1 Gbit / s, and thus meet the 4K × 2K smooth 60FPS video playback demand is expected to launch the first half of 2015 related products .

Bouwer stressed , SlimPort has significant power consumption advantages, and therefore is the ideal choice for the output interface system for mobile devices. For example, SlimPort transmitter transmitting full high-definition (FHD) and UHD video, the power consumption of approximately 200 milliwatts (mW) and 300 mW, while the receiver is required to consume 100 mW and 200 mW respectively. electricity , compared with competing solutions, can save up more than half of the extra power.

In fact , the key SlimPort extend the life of mobile devices not only that . Bouwer pointed out that the existing program already has 10 watts SlimPort charging function , can charge for mobile devices simultaneously transmit audio and video , and in the use of the new DisplayPort 1.3 specification charging wattage , SlimPort will be able to support 18 watts of charging.

Bouwer said the chip will also support future SlimPort Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 protocol to further integrate power management ICs (PMIC), fast charge feature that allows mobile devices to shorten the charging time of 75%, and compliant with the USB charging standard - BC 1.2 and Quick Charge 1.0 standards.

It is worth mentioning Analogix SlimPort in order to further expand the ecosystem, is actively establish cooperative relations with the processor chip supplier. The company has signed an agreement with Rockchip last yeaar, and will be included in the next generation SlimPort-enabled smartphone and tablet reference design.

Bouwer explained that due to recent transmission interface standard generations and accelerating the speed of the chip should also be developed with the times, so now way Analogix vendors with multi- processor system applied on a reference design platform SlimPort chips, but until 2015 after the advent of a new generation of SlimPort chips , Rockchip application processor (AP) to integrate SlimPort IPs , and Analogix also is actively working with Qualcomm, MediaTek , Intel (Intel), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and other treatment vendors to discuss cooperation in the form of cuts in major processor design IP , SlimPort rapidly expanding market share .

VESA statistical data indicates that three hundred VESA DisplayPort certified samples of new products , including laptops , monitors, adapters and cables , etc. have been added in 2013, a total increase of 63% of the total ; 2014 there will be a debut of more of a group equipped with DisplayPort interface 4K UHD TV and computer monitors.

Bouwer noted that the current market equipped with high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) 1.4 still does not support display of 4K × 2K 60FPS video streaming, but DisplayPort 1.2 has met these needs. Since SlimPort interface is based on DisplayPort technology, so the two sides can accelerate the overall ecosystem generation

Obviously, MHL 3.0 and SlimPort are all aimed at focusing 4K × 2K video market , and this wave of war will spread all the way from the mobile device to the monitor , telematics systems and other applications; in the future the focus of the two sides will be on how to develop the next generation of standard specifications, and industry partners continue to work together to conquer new territories.
