Amazon released three new fire tablets – the new Amazon Kindle Fire HD 6, Fire HD 7 and the new Fire HDX 8.9. The company also introduced a special Kids Edition tablet of the Fire HD 6 and 7, priced at $149 and $189 respectively. The Kids Edition tablets come with a child-friendly OS with parental settings, soft protective cover, a one-year Amazon FreeTime Unlimited service for kids content subscription and a 2-year replacement guarantee if it breaks. The tablets are powered by the latest Fire OS 4 Sangria based on the Android v4.4 KitKat operating system.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 6 has a 6-inch 1280 x 800 pixels IPS display at 252ppi, while the Fire HD 7 features a 7-inch 1280 x 800 pixels IPS display at 216ppi. Both the tablets have similar specs, including the 1.5GHz Quad-Core processor, 1GB RAM, 8-hours of battery life (mixed use), 2-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera. Both the tablets come in two variants, 8GB (5GB storage for user) and 16GB (12.2GB for user).

Connectivity options include WiFi, SlimPort enabled USB 2.0, Bluetooth with support for A2DP. Both the Kindle Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7 tablets have integrated speaker with Dolby Digital Plus audio engine and 3.5mm stereo jack. Both have Accelerometer and Gyroscope sensors. The Fire HD 6 measures in at 10.7 mm and weighs 290 grams, while the Fire HD 7 is slightly thicker at 10.6mm and weighs 337 grams.

The next-gen Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, an updated version of the company’s HDX 8.9 tablet, comes pre-loaded with the latest Fire OS 4 Sangria. It has an 8.9-inch display with a resolution of 2560 X 1600 pixels at 339ppi in sRGB color, over 400 nints brightness. The new Fire HDX 8.9 is powered by the Quad-Core Snapdragon 805 CPU clocked at 2.5GHz, Adreno 420 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Fire HDX 8.9 comes with three options  – 8GB (8.8GB for user), 32GB (25.6GB for user) and 64GB (54.3GB for user) internal storage. It claimed to provide up-to 12 hours of battery life while listening, watching, reading and browsing on this device.

The tablet houses an 8-megapixel rear camera with wide-aperture 5P f/2.2, LED flash and 1080p FullHD video recording and also includes a 720p HD front-facing camera. It is the company’s fist device with Dolby Atmos for better sound quality and has stereo speakers. Connectivity features of the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 included are 4G LTE / 3G, WiFi Dual Band, dual antenna WiFi, SlimPort enabled USB 2.0, Bluetooth with A2DP and GPS with aGPS (4G). It offers Accelerometer, Ambient light and Gyroscope sensors. The Fire HDX 8.9 WiFi model weighs 375 grams, while the 4G model weighs 359 grams.

Both the Fire HD 6 and HD 7 will come in Black, Cobalt, Citron, Magenta and White colors. The new Fire HDX 8.9 starts ate $379 for the WiFi only variant and $479 for the 4G variant. All the tablets are now available for pre-order in the US via the official Amazon site with a shipping date in October.
