For the more careful of us, you have certainly not missed the fact that the BlackBerry Passport does not have a micro HDMI port, functionality that allows you to connect your smartphone to media such as TV, monitor, and many other devices that use this kind of incoming connection to allow playback / viewing content from a source, such as a smartphone. The micro HDMI port is present on most BlackBerry 10 smartphones, except BlackBerry Q5 and Z3; but then why on a top of the range device, like the BlackBerry Passport, this is not available?

The BlackBerry Passport leverages SlimPort

The micro HDMI port has been replaced on the BlackBerry Passport to make way for a new type of connection adopted so far by only Nexus devices and LG. In fact we are talking about the SlimPort technology. The premises are similar to those of MHL.

The technology substantially allows exploiting the microUSB port of a device such as video output, using an appropriate adapter, or a special cable that already integrate this technology (and therefore the conversion microUSB - HDMI).

Moreover, in these days, Analogix Semiconductor, Inc. has announced the full compatibility of its products with the BlackBerry Passport, precisely to allow to fully exploit the technology SlimPort.

Definitely an additional accessory that should not be missed by the owners of BlackBerry Passport.
