Analogix Receives 2009 China Semiconductor Innovative Products and Technology Award for Its CoolHD™ Product

ANX7150 HDMI Transmitter, a CoolHD Family Product, Honored as ‘Most Innovative’ in the Innovative Products Category

Analogix Semiconductor, Inc., a manufacturer and innovator of high-performance analog and mixed signal devices for the digital media and communications markets, announced that its ultra-low power ANX7150 HDMI transmitter has received a 2009 China Semiconductor Innovative Products and Technology Award. The Award was presented at The Fourth Annual China Semiconductor Innovative Products and Technology Award Ceremony held in Shanghai, Zhangjiang.

The Fourth Annual (2009) China Semiconductor Innovative Products and Technology Competition was co-hosted by China Semiconductor Industry Association, China Electronic Materials Industry Association, China Electronic Production Equipment Industry Association and China Electronics News. A total of 36 innovative products were chosen through the co-hosts’ active organization and promotion, and the judging panel’s strict selection and elimination processes. Award categories included IC products and technologies, IC manufacturing technologies, semiconductor devices, IC packaging and testing technologies, semiconductor equipment and instruments, and semiconductor materials.

Innovative Power Solution for HDMI Transmitter

Analogix’ ground breaking patent protected technology allows the ANX7150 to power its HDMI transmitter by recovering and recycling power from the HDMI-TMDS link that is normally lost in heat dissipation on the transmitter side. Existing HDMI transmitters are forced to drain batteries due to the physical nature of the HDMI link. As other electronics within mobile devices shrink to lower silicon geometries, adding more features and lowering their power consumption, the contribution of a HDMI transmitter increasingly becomes a more significant percentage of battery drain. This battery drain limits the ability of system designers to use smaller, lighter batteries and also reduces overall playback time. By incorporating the ANX7150 into a portable device, manufacturers can deliver stunning HD performance without sacrificing battery life.

The ANX7150 belongs to the company’s CoolHD™ family of products. The ANX7150 target applications include MP4 players, SmartPhones, digital cameras, digital camcorders and other portable electronic devices. The Analogix ANX7150 HDMI transmitter is compatible with the HDMI 1.3 specification, and is backward compatible with DVI. Optionally, it also supports HDCP 1.2 function with internal keys. ANX7150 has passed HDMI and HDCP testing, and ADTC-EasyHD Laboratory’s Interoperability test.

About CoolHD

CoolHD™ is a patent protected technological implementation which enables the HDMI transmitter to recover and recycle the wasted HDMI-TMDS link power which otherwise would have been lost in heat dissipation on the transmitter side. Operating on recycled power, the device reduces the draw on battery of the handheld device and significantly extends the battery life. Also, it reduces the heat dissipation on a handheld.
